POREanha was founded in 2025 in the Bay Area to help small laboratories analyze their nanopore data.

The MinION platform, developed by Oxford Nanopore Technologies plc, allows labs to sequence their own samples in-house, and on a budget — accelerating science at all levels. However, to generate high-quality data from a MinION, many labs need to develop complex software solutions and acquire expensive computational resources. In particular, basecalling is computationally intensive, typically requiring high-performance GPUs and custom software development.
